Yaron Herman, best new instrumentalist in the French « Victoires du Jazz » in 2008, brings us his new album «Muse» with his trio and the guest appearance of the string quartet « Quatuor Ebène », on the La Borie-Jazz label (distributed by Naïve).
After two intense years on tour, the trio (composed of Matt Brewer on double bass and Gerald Cleaver on drums) continue the success story of their highly acclaimed first album « A Time for Everything » (« choc jazzman » of the year in 2007 and « disque d'émoi 2007» in Jazz Magazine).
The three partners, now closer than ever, take us on a journey which covers jazz, pop and improvisation. They are supported to great effect on several tracks by the extremely creative Ebony Quartet, a revelation from the classical music scene.
What they have managed to do in their un-complexed, natural, creative and joyful way is to reinvent the trio concept. The raging energy, the moody lyricism, the tension, the perpetual reinvention of formats, the permenant risk-taking make this album like no other... welcome to the personal universe of Yaron Herman.

Yaron Herman, Biography
Yaron Herman was born on 12th July 1981 in Tel Aviv. He started out on a promising career as a basketball player on the Israeli national junior team but that was cut short by a serious knee injury which quashed his sporting ambitions. He only decided to take up playing the piano, at the age of 16. His teacher was the renowned Opher Brayer, famous for his methods based on philosophy, mathematics and psychology. Yaron was soon giving his first performances in the most prestigious concert halls in Israel.
At 16, Yaron left for Boston where he planned to enroll at the Berklee College School of Music. He found it didn't satisfy his craving for knowledge and discovery and decided to return to Tel Aviv. On the way back he stopped over in Paris, that evening he met some musicians during a jam session and was given a contract the very next day. He never left Paris from then on. It was a period of musical exchanges and getting to know people while he started to make a name for himself on the parisien musical scene.
His enthusiasm and talent, surprising in someone so young, meant that he quickly became the pianist that everyone was talking about with admiration and stupefaction. He was awarded the Sunside « New Talents » Trophy by unanimous vote. At 21, he recorded his first album « Takes 2 to know 1 »on the Sketch Label alongside Sylvain Ghio. He developed a theory of musical improvisation called « Real Time Composition » which earned him the chance to give a series of lectures at the Sorbonne.
In October 2005 he recorded his first piano solo album « Variations » on the brand new LaBorie Jazz Label on which he presents his « Themes and Variations » concept. Thus each tune, each theme in our collective memory can serve as an excuse for playful, creative innovation, improvisation and invention. Amazingly original and lyrical.
The album received particularly good reviews and Yaron started to give his first solo performances in Europe, in South America, in the United States and in China where he was the first Jazz pianist to play in the Forbidden City in Beijing.
In 2007 he was elected Adami Jazz Talent by the French artistic community. There is the same astonishment each time he plays, his charisma, his enthusiasm and his lyricism leave the audience deeply moved. After more than a hundred solo concerts around the world, Yaron recorded his first album as a trio « A Time for Everything » (launched in October 2007 on the LaBorie Jazz Label) along with Matt Brewer (Gonzalo Rubalcapa's renowned double bass player) and Gerald Cleaver (drummer for Miroslav Vitous and Jacky Terrasson) a subtle blend of jazz , pop and his own personal compositions. His very original version of « Toxic » by Britney Spears and his cover of Police's « Message in a Bottle » brought his music to a wider audience and rapidly won them over. The album received critical acclaim winning « Choc Jazzman » of the year and « Disque d'émoi Jazz Magazine ».
In 2008, the trio toured Europe, the United States and Brazil with impressive results. To mention but a few: the Monterey Festival, the Montreal Jazz Festival, the San Francisco Festival, the Weiner Konzert-Haus, the Auditori in Barcelona, the Juan Les Pins Festival, the Vittoria Gasteiz Festival. At the same time Yaron Herman was working in collaboration with Michel Portal, Bertrand Chamayou, Lars Danielsson, Yael Naim and others, such as Dominic Miller, Sting's guitarist.

Yaron Herman est né le 12 juillet 1981 à Tel-Aviv. Il se destinait à une brillante carrière de basketteur dans l'équipe nationale junior d'Israel quand une blessure sérieuse au genou interrompt définitivement ses rêves de sportif de haut niveau. Il commence alors le piano, à l’âge de 16 ans, avec pour professeur le célèbre Opher Brayer, connu pour sa méthode d’enseignement basée sur la philosophie, les mathématiques, la psychologie. Très rapidement, Yaron donne ses premiers concerts dans les plus prestigieuses salles en Israël.
A 19 ans, Yaron part à Boston, où il compte bien fréquenter la Berklee College School of Music. Le jeune homme avide de connaissances et de découvertes n’y trouve pas la matière et l’inspiration. Il décide de rentrer à Tel-Aviv et fait une brève halte à Paris lors de son voyage retour. Il rencontre, le soir même, quelques musiciens lors d’une Jam-session, et se retrouve immédiatement engagé le lendemain. Il ne quittera plus Paris dès lors. C’est une période de rencontres, d’échanges musicaux, et Yaron commence à se faire un nom dans le milieu musical parisien.
Il étonne par sa précocité, son talent, sa fougue, et devient vite le pianiste dont tout le monde parle avec admiration et stupéfaction. Il reçoit le Trophée « Nouveaux talents » du Sunside, à l’unanimité du Jury. A l’âge de 21 ans, il enregistre pour le Label Sketch son premier disque « Takes 2 to know 1 » aux côtés du batteur Sylvain Ghio. Il développe une théorie musicale de l’improvisation appelée « Real Time Composition » qui lui vaudra d’animer un cycle de conférences à la Sorbonne.
En Octobre 2005, Il enregistre son premier disque en piano solo "Variations" sur le tout nouveau Label LaBorie Jazz, où il présente son concept des « Thèmes et Variations ». Chaque mélodie, chaque thème inscrit dans notre inconscient collectif est un prétexte joyeux et créatif pour la ré-création, l’improvisation et l’invention. Une originalité et un lyrisme époustouflants.
Le disque est particulièrement acclamé par la critique, et Yaron commence à donner ses premiers concerts solos en Europe, en Amérique du Sud, aux Etats-Unis et en Chine, et il sera le premier pianiste de jazz à jouer à la Cité Interdite à Pékin.
En 2007, il est élu talent Jazz Adami . Chaque fois, c’est le même étonnement dans le public, son charisme, sa fougue, son lyrisme bouleversent profondément son auditoire. Après une centaine de concerts en solo à travers le Monde, Yaron enregistre son premier album en trio "A Time for Everything" (sortie Octobre 2007 - Label LaBorie Jazz), en compagnie de Matt Brewer (contrebassiste remarqué auprès de Gonzalo Rubalcaba) et Gerald Cleaver (batteur de Miroslav Vitous et de Jacky Terrasson) où il mêle subtilement ses influences jazz, pop, des compositions personnelles. Sa version très originale de "Toxic" de Britney Spears, et sa reprise de "Message in A Bottle" de Police le font rapidement connaître et aimer au delà même de l'auditoire jazz. Le disque est « Choc Jazzman de l'année » et « Disque d'émoi Jazz Magazine ».
En 2008, le trio se produit en Europe, aux Etats-Unis, au Brésil et remporte un succès impressionnant. On pourrait citer le festival de Monterrey, le Montreal Jazz Festival, le San Francisco Jazz Festival, le Wiener Konzert-Haus, l'Auditori de Barcelona, le Festival de Juan Les Pins, le festival de Vittoria Gasteiz. Parallèlement, Yaron Herman développe des collaborations musicales et amicales avec Michel Portal, Bertrand Chamayou, Lars Danielsson, Yael Naim ou encore Dominic Miller, le guitariste de Sting.
En Septembre 2008, Yaron est élu Révélation Instrumentale de l'année aux Victoires du Jazz. C'est à Belgrade, en Octobre, que le trio est retransmis en direct dans 39 pays par la chaîne musicale Mezzo, un incroyable événement médiatique dans le monde du jazz. Le trio reprend le chemin du studio, après avoir réalisé plus d'une centaine de concerts ensemble. Pour son nouvel opus "Muse" (sortie Mars 2009 - Label LaBorie Jazz), le trio invite un quatuor à cordes, le Quatuor Ebène, révélation musicale du monde classique.
